Operation Barnabas
Operation Barnabas is a support and outreach program created by The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod to care for military members, veterans, chaplains, and their families. Launched in 2007, the program focuses on helping service members who face the challenges of deployment, reintegration into civilian life, and emotional or spiritual struggles after serving. The name “Barnabas” comes from the Bible, where Barnabas was known as the “son of encouragement,” reflecting the program’s mission to provide hope, compassion, and practical support to those connected to the military.
Through Operation Barnabas, churches and volunteers work together to support military families in their local communities. This can include prayer groups, counseling, mentoring, community outreach, and helping families during deployments or after soldiers return home. The program also trains congregations to better understand the needs of veterans and active-duty service members. By combining faith-based encouragement with community service, Operation Barnabas aims to create a strong network of care for those who have sacrificed in service to their country.

The Peace Honor Wall stands as a meaningful and enduring memorial, honoring those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. Alongside the Missing Man table, it creates a respectful space for reflection, serves as an educational historical center, and acts as a welcoming venue for community events. This wall not only commemorates individual sacrifices but also preserves our rich local and national military heritage for generations to come.
