​A Mighty Fortress is our God! For centuries a fortress was the place to find refuge in a time of trouble, a safe place where you could find protection for you and your family. All sorts of dangers and enemies could not reach you, if you took shelter in a well-defended castle. No wonder why this image is employed so commonly in Scripture to describe the safety of our God. Our confidence grows knowing we are protected from sin, death and the devil in Jesus Christ! 

Psalm 46:1-3

God is our mighty fortress,
    always ready to help
    in times of trouble.
 And so, we won’t be afraid!
    Let the earth tremble
    and the mountains tumble
    into the deepest sea.
 Let the ocean roar and foam,
    and its raging waves
    shake the mountains.
